Niger College, Edo State forward Onye Ogochukwu was named the Cliqlite man of the match after scoring three times in his team’s 3-1 victory over Christ School of Ekiti State.
The 14 year old believes his team will carry their winning mentality into the national finals in Lagos and claim ultimate glory in the end.
“I feel so glad and I want to thank Etisalat for giving me this opportunity to play,” Ogochukwu told Goal.com.
“Our chance in the national finals is that we will go there to win and give God all the glory.”
Ogochukwu cited former Real Madrid and Brazil striker Ronaldo as his role model because of his fantastic style of play.
“My role model is Ronaldo because I love the way he scores and how he moves with the ball.
“My ambition is to be a successful player in future. I would like to play for Barcelona because they are the best team in the world and I like how they play.”

Edo state 3-1 Ekiti State
In a related development, Ekiti State’s Christ School’s 3-1 defeat to Niger College of Edo state – their first in the competition, cost them a place in the national final despite their impressive start. Onye Ogochukwu of Niger College drew the first blood after 18 minutes after receiving a pass from Ernest Addeh. And in the 37th minute, Christ School’s Ayotunde Kobomaje leveled scores before Ogochukwu added two more goals to complete his treble. The defeat ensured that Christ School finished third. They could, therefore not scale through to the finals.
Osun state 3-1 Ogun state
After claiming a 2-0 victory over Ipakodo High School, Lagos, Osun’s Ife Oluwa Middle High School needed a win plus a margin of four goals to qualify for the national finals, while NUD High School was playing for pride after their first two defeats.
Tunde Adebowale’s team made their intention known in the 23rd minute when Faruq Oyeniyi’s fine pass found Ismael Jimoh for the first goal. In the 32nd minute, Jimoh assisted Oyeniyi for the second goal – while Teslim Olanipekun’s header past goalkeeper Azeez Lawal gave them their third goal. However, NUD High School got a consolation from the penalty spot which was converted by Taiwo Oyeshola.
Ondo state 3-0 Delta state
After two defeats, Preston International School from Ondo State had the chance of getting their first win even without kicking the ball against absent Delta State. The result ensured they finished in sixth place above Ogun and Delta states.
Oyo state 1-0 Lagos state
Asegun Comprehensive High School defeated Lagos based Ipakodo High School 1-0 at the Lekan Salami Stadium. Despite needing a draw to qualify for the national finals, the hosts, Oyo, turned in a commanding display with match day two Cliqlite man of the match, Rasheed Qudus inspiring the hard earned win. He was fouled in the penalty area of the Lagosians and Olarenwaju Adams converted the resulting penalty. The result ensured they placed second and thus, qualified for the national finals billed for Lagos in November.
