Father of nine commits suicide in Bayelsa

There was pandemonium in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital as a 43 year old man, simply identify as  Benbede Kitchen aka GK Benegbor, committed suicide, leaving his wife and nine children behind.

The man’s sudden death caused tears to flow freely from relations, friends and well wishers with his children crying and appealing for help.

The deceased also left behind his 80 year old mother and other close relatives to suffer as he was regarded as the bread winner of the family.

He had worked as a member representing Aligbiri community in the old Rural Development Authority [RDA] created by late DSP Alamieseygha to in 2000 provide succor for rural communities.

Late Benegbo until his sudden death had been married to Mrs. Beauty Kitchen and had nine children with the eldest studying law at the Niger Delta University, NDU, Amasoma, Bayelsa state.

The immediate cause of the suicide was not made public as there was no suicide note left by the deceased.

Narrating how Kitchen killed himself, an elder brother, Chief DM Apelibiri said  he killed himself in the early hours of Thursday along Asingbi lane in the state capital.

Apelibiri said before he committed suicide, the deceased was a well known local gin drinker, describing him as a drunk.

According to Apelibiri, his wife had stopped him from drinking, but he later resumed the act of taking local gin before he committed suicide on Thursday.

According to Apelibiri, on Wednesday, the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Beauty Kitchen travelled, leaving the nine children with her husband, and late Bekegbo committed suicide in the early hours of Thursday, causing panic among residents of the compound.

When the sad incident took place, neighbors and passersby besieged the compound to a glimpse of  the lifeless body of the deceased.

Apelibiri told our Correspondent that he got hint of Bekegbo’s death through a telephone call from friends and relations who live in Yenagoa.

Our correspondent reports that as at 11am Thursday morning, preparations were ongoing on how to bury the remains of late Bekegbo

Efforts to contact Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butwats, DSP for confirmation were not fruitful as he could not pick several calls to his cell phones. But the family of the deceased had already procured the coffin for the burial of Bekegbo as at press time.
