Footballer arrested for armed robbery as Police parades suspected 28 armed robbers, 3 kidnappers, cultists in Bayelsa

Bayelsa State Police Command on Thursday arrested and paraded 28 armed robbery suspects, three kidnappers   and numerous cultists from across communities of the state.

The command also arrested a footballer attached to Bayelsa United Feeder Team; one Emmanuel Tibofa for allegedly robbing Swali market traders in Yenagoa. The command said the suspect is also a member of Greenlander cult group in the state.
Parading the suspects in the state Police Command, Commissioner of Police, Asuquo Amba said the suspects are gangs of cultists, armed robbers and kidnappers that have been terrorizing the state.

The suspects, most of who, according to Amba, are known for robbing bank customers, Keke (tricycle) riders and other residents of the city, were arrested at various locations in the state.

The command, Amba said,  recorded a major success in the month of May with the arrest of two notorious criminal gangs who specialized in raiding Corpers’ lodge and dispossessing Youth corps members of their valuable items including handsets, laptops and cash.

Amba insisted that Bayelsa state has no room for armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists and vowed that night life would soon return to the city.

Amba said the footballer he was arrested at Swali market while robbing traders of cash and other personal belongings.
According to Amba, Emmanuel Tibofa was arrested after robbing a trader with a locally made pistol in his possession while other members of his gang escaped.

He said that the strategy adopted by the Command in fighting crimes and criminalities is paying off as they have apprehended 28 armed robbers, 3 notorious kidnappers and members of other cult groups  terrorizing the state.

Hear Amba, ‘We want to ensure that the Inspector General of Police’s directives to make kidnapping an unlucrative business in the state is carried out.
The command’s CP said, they equally foiled an attempt  by armed robbers  to rob a bank customer of the sum of one Hundred and Fifty Thousand naira, N150,000 inside a tricycle along Yenagoa road on Thursday morning.

The police also arrested one Abas Mohammed a notorious armed robbery suspect for snatching  the sum of  N38,500 from a woman who withdrew money from a bank.

The Police Commissioner also said, all the victims of the kidnappers were rescued by his gallant team and promised that the command is going to unleash all its resources towards making kidnapping an unrewarding business in Bayelsa.

Amba said further that ‘We equally recovered various stolen items from these robbers and cultists such as  six locally made pistols, 16 live cartridges, one battle axe, one Toyota Camry car and one 9mm live Ammunition from the suspects,’

Hear Amba, “Bayelsa is not under siege. Bayelsa state is a peaceful state. There is no security gap in the state.”

He assured the public that the suspects would be charged to court and prosecuted after thorough investigations.
