Former DMO DG, Prof. Abraham Nwankwo is MIVA University Academic Discourse Speaker, Friday, May 30, 2025

Dr. Nwankwo, who was the DG of DMO from 2007 to 2017, and is now Professor of Practice, Department of Economics, MIVA Open University, will be speaking on: “Using Data-Based Instrument to Detect and Control Abuse of Competent Access to Public Debt Markets (A Case Study of Nigeria 2000 – 2023).”

The Host of the Discourse, which is expected to be intellectually stimulating, informative and practical in nature, will be the Vice Chancellor, MIVA Open University, Professor Tayo Arulogun, a computer systems engineering professor and certified open and distance learning expert.
Dr. Nwankwo holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN). He also obtained his Bachelors and Masters degrees in the same discipline from the same UNN. He had emerged the first Ph.D. graduate in Economics from UNN 25 years after the institution was established.
He spent some years lecturing at his alma mater, before he ventured into the corporate world of banking and finance where he rose to top management positions. From the banking halls, he joined the DMO as an Assistant Director in 2001, and rose to become the DG in 2007.
Dr. Nwankwo, who has also been on the Board of the World Bank, where he served as the Senior Advisor to the Executive Director (Africa II Constituency), and served as Chief Economic Adviser to a Governor of Imo State, has authored over five books, which include his 2011 Economics classic — Stable Growth and Foreign Exchange.
