FRSC enrolls 103 Special Marshals in Gombe…Says it needs more

FRSC boss, Boboye Oyeyemi
The Gombe Sector Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), has added 103 Special Marshals into its fold to complement its roles in reducing road crashes in the State.
Speaking at the induction ceremony, the Gombe Sector Commander, Ibrahim Sarki Abubakar who was represented by his Deputy, Mr. Patrick D Davou called on the newly inducted Special Marshals to uphold the virtues of discipline and respect which the Special Marshals are already known for.
According to him, the Command fully appreciates the complimentary role of the Special Marshals in checking and controlling traffic which in turn reduces road crashes since the Gombe Command of the FRSC cannot effectively cover everywhere in the State.
While warning that they must live by example in obedience to road traffic rules and regulations, Mr. Patick called on them to be ready to come out for patrols whenever and wherever they are called having in mind that their service is sacrificial and humanitarian.
In a lecture titled “Developing effective patrol strategy as a panacea for road traffic crashes reduction”, Mr. Patrick stated that the FRSC is constrained by manpower, as such, the mandatory stationing of their men in every fifty metres on a road, cannot be achieved hence the complementary efforts of the Special Marshals.
Earlier, the Gombe State Coordinator RS3.2 Special Marshals Gombe, Mrs. Rona S Tula said through the voluntary service of the Special Marshals, they have put their lives, time and resources on the line to save lives and properties on the highway.
She said “the training will highlight and acquaint us with the conduct and code of traffic regulations and operations to stay safe while on patrol including other techniques”.
She said, even with the 103 Special Marshals who will be joining the 185 already on ground, they will still need more volunteers to complement effective patrol by FRSC in Gombe State.
