
Frontline presidential aspirant in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr. Peter Obi, has condoled with former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir el Rufai on the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, in Cairo, Egypt, where she had been receiving treatment.
In a condolence message on his X (former Twitter) platform, Mr. Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, said that the death of Hajiya El-Rufai on Friday, March 27, 2026 “is indeed a sombre moment for the El-Rufai family, as Mama’s passing marks the close of a significant chapter in their matriarchal lineage.”
While expressing deepest sympathies to Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and his entire family, Mr. Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 election noted that “the loss of a mother is a profound turning point in anyone’s life, regardless of status or position,” and prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul.
