Gen. Ogunewe, Imo State Labour Party guber aspirant mourns late Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General, Prof. Obiozor

Gen. Lincoln Ogunewe (Rtd.)

Governorship aspirant of the Labour Party (LP) in Imo State, Gen. Lincoln Ogunewe (Rtd.) has said that the death of the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, Professor (Ambassador) George Obiozor, is a personal loss and that he has by it been robbed of “a confidant, a motivator, leader, mentor and political adviser.”

Gen. Ogunewe, whose entrance into the governorship race of Imo State is raising some dust, said, in a tribute to the departed statesman, titled “George Obiozor: Leaving at a wrong time,” that Obiozor, until his death, had been “as supportive as ever, resilient and committed to my quest to become the next governor of Imo State.”

He said that the demise of the renowned academic and diplomat came to him as a rude shock, insisting that Obiozor should not have left the world at this time, likening him to the Biblical Moses who saw the Promised land, but could not enter it.

According to him, God knew the quantum of the challenges and troubles that were to confront the Igbo and created an apt solution in the mold of Prof. Obiozor, a man who he said believed strongly in Igbo renaissance but never knew “that he wouldn’t experience the change he longed for.”

Ogunewe said further that Obiozor served Nigeria and the Igbo passionately and would be sorely missed by his home state, Imo, by the Igbo, by Nigeria, Africa and by humanity as a whole, praying that God will grant him perfect repose, and hoping that the present generation of leaders will continue along the lines of the departed leader.
