West African rivals Ghana and Nigeria are set to face each other in the qualifying rounds for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). Both teams are in the same regional zone, making the upcoming matches highly anticipated by football fans.
The 2024 CHAN tournament, which features players based in their home countries across Africa, will be held in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from January to February 2025.
Ghana and Nigeria have a history of intense football rivalry, with their last CHAN meeting in 2022 ending in a 2-2 draw. Ghana won that match on penalties, adding more excitement to this upcoming encounter.
The 2024 CHAN will see 19 teams competing, one more than the previous edition. The format of the tournament has yet to be announced, but teams will go through two rounds of home-and-away qualifying matches. The final round will be concluded by late December this year.
In North Africa, teams like Morocco, Tunisia, and Libya have already secured their places in the finals. Reigning champions Senegal will face either Sierra Leone or Liberia in their qualifying round.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has increased the prize money for the 2024 CHAN, with the champions set to earn $2 million.
This tournament is also seen as a major preparation for Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, as they gear up to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
