Gombe APC governorship aspirant cautions party against manipulation
Habu Muazu stated this while speaking to journalists shortly after a sensitization programme he organized for his supporters on the guide lines of the forth coming party primaries.
Habu Muazu, who first established his political career as the Gombe State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, youth leader during the administration of Muhammad Danjuma Goje, now a serving senator, advised that manipulating the direct primaries should be avoided at all cost as it could cause a serious havoc leading to disunity among the party supporters in the state.
He said, “Direct primaries is the best, I support the direct primaries not only for the President but also for Governors and other positions because if you are a politician and you have the grassroots supporters, you cannot be afraid of anything in this direct primaries”.
He pointed out that, it is the aspirants and the stakeholders that have the responsibility to agree on the mode of election to be conducted in the state with regard to the National Executive Council directive.
According to him, “If we agree it is going to be indirect primaries and we are sure we are going to be treated fairly, then we can allow the delegates. But considering that our state is a PDP government, they might try to bring in some people who will bring confusion into our affairs if it is not going to be through direct primaries. That is why we have to look at it critically. We want to win an election so we don’t want anything that will jeopardize the existing peace in the party”.
He said the party constitution allows for consensus among the aspirants to ensure unity adding that people at the local associations are the real voters and they can make a politician to win or lose an election.
