The Gombe State Cash Transfer Unit in conjunction with the National Cash Transfer Office Abuja has begun a two-day step down training of facilitators aimed at addressing poverty at the grassroots.
The programme which is under the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme will be training 30 facilitators from all the 30 electoral wards of three Local Government Areas of Balanga, Nafada and Yamaltu-Deba.
According to the Gombe State Desk Officer of the programme, Umar Baba Kumo, the beneficiaries, after the selection is made, will earn a N5, 000 monthly allowance in different categories aimed at supporting them and help them create wealth for themselves.
The State focal Person in the Presidency on Social Investment Programme and Special Adviser to the Gombe state Governor, Hajiya Maryam Mele, said the programme is aimed at addressing poverty and assured that many of such programmes will soon take place in Gombe State including the school feeding programme which is already ongoing in some States.
In their various good will messages, the Commissioners for Economic Planning as well as that of Community Development and Poverty Alleviation who were represented by their Permanent Secretaries, commended the Gombe State Government for fulfilling all it takes to ensure the take-off of the programme in the State.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Economic Planning, Mr. Stephen Ayuba, the Federal Government and most especially, the Gombe State Government have taken the programme seriously which is evidenced its take-off.
Speaking on behalf of the three Local Government Chairmen, the Chairman of Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area, Alhaji Haruna Samanja, commended the Federal and State Governments for commencing the programmes in their localities and called on the participants to conduct themselves very well.
