Senator Makarfi who stated this through, Alhaji Abdullahi Jalo, his Media Aide, on the Hausa Service of the BBC, described the allegations of favouritism as fallacious, lies and mere imagination of the accusers.
According to him, some of the prominent contestants in the chairmanship race are calling for the resignation of the Care-taker Chairman on the grounds that Prince Uche Secondus, if made the Chairman, will make it easy for Makarfi to secure the party’s presidential ticket for the 2019 general election.
But reacting to the allegations, Alhaji Jalo said, “If I keep quiet and pretend all is well, I will not be fair to myself and the Caretaker Chairman. Chairmanship candidates, Chief Bode George, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, Chief Gbenga Daniel, and some others are calling for the resignation of Makarfi on fallacious and flimsy assumptions that Makarfi is supporting Uche Secondus. They are linking this to the assumption of Makarfi’s ambition of contesting for the President in 2019 under the party’s ticket”.
Also confirming Makarfi’s Presidential ambition, Jalo said, “Makarfi personally told me that he is contesting but that cannot be linked to the fallacious and misleading assumptions that Makarfi is supporting Secondus. I am refuting that allegation”.
“However”, he said, “Let me make it clear that Makarfi is an impartial leader even when he has the right to support any candidate of his choice. He cannot publicly show who he is supporting, but he is not supporting Secondus”.
Alhaji Jalo who is also a contestant for the Deputy National Chairman (North) of the party also said, “I am not against Secondus as a person, I don’t want people to say that PDP has not learnt their lesson or that they are bringing thieves, people with questionable character”.
