Google has joined in celebrating Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day with a special doodle on its homepage. The doodle carries the green-white-green colours of the national flag and features an eagle to symbolise the occasion.
Clicking on the doodle takes users to important historical facts and key moments in Nigeria’s journey since independence.
In his Independence Day speech, President Bola Tinubu said he is confident that Nigeria is on the path to recovery, declaring that “the worst is over” following the difficulties caused by recent economic reforms.
He highlighted the country’s 4.23% GDP growth in the second quarter – the highest in four years – along with lower inflation at 20.12%, rising foreign reserves, and higher oil production as signs of progress.
The president also revealed that N330 billion has been shared with eight million vulnerable households through the government’s social investment scheme. He promised more investment in infrastructure to speed up development.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to promote peace, tolerance, and cooperation, stressing that differences should not stop the country from moving forward together
