Gov Eno congratulates DCP Anthony Okon on appointment as Police Spokesperson
The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has congratulated Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anthony Placid Okon, on his appointment as the new spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force.
DCP Okon was appointed by the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, as part of a leadership reshuffle in the police hierarchy.
He replaces Benjamin Hundeyin, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), who previously served as the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO). Hundeyin was appointed police spokesperson in September 2025 by the former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. At the time of his appointment, he held the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) but was later promoted to ACP.
In a congratulatory message released by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, Governor Eno thanked the Inspector-General of Police for the confidence shown in the Akwa Ibom-born officer.
The governor expressed confidence that the new police spokesperson would bring professionalism and integrity to the role.
He noted that Okon would carry into the position “the defining elements of the Akwa Ibom identity of excellence in delivery, integrity beyond reproach, strength and firmness in humility, loyalty without question and the advancement of the mandate of the IGP in line with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for the Nigerian Police Force.”
Governor Eno also offered prayers and best wishes for the officer as he takes up the national assignment.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State, I congratulate you on this national assignment given to you by the IGP,” the governor said.
“I wish you God’s speed and to Him alone be the glory!”
