
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has promised to pay the Super Eagles members the sum of $20,000 for every goal scored they score in decisive match against Swaziland, Tuesday in Port Harcourt.
Addressing the Super Eagles after their training, Monday at the Adokiye Amasiemaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, preparatory to their World Cup Qualifier against Swaziland, Governor Wike assured the Super Eagles of his administration’s support and that of the people of Rivers State.
The governor who was represented by the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Chief Kenneth Kobani noted that Port Harcourt will remain a victory ground for the National Football team.
He urged the players to put up their best to score as many goals as possible, stating that the entire country is behind them.
According to him, the team will be hosted to a victory reception by the Rivers State Government after the match.
Responding, team Captain, Ahmed Musa assured Nigerians that the team would qualify for the group stage of the World Cup qualifier.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has charged the Nigerian side to go all out to chinch the three points at stake by beating the visiting Swazi side.
Welcoming the Sunday Otiseh-led Super Eagles to the Garden-City of Port Harcourt, venue of the international engagement, the State PDP chairman, , Bro Felix Obuah, through a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jerry Needam said the Super Eagles should take advantage of the prevailing peaceful atmosphere and face-lift given to infrastructural and social facilities in the State as well as the unrivalled enthusiasm of Rivers people in football to win the match and improve their chances of making it to the 2016 World Cup fiesta.
Obuah recalled that Port Harcourt has a history of hosting international football matches which had brought both victories and fame to the country and expressed optimism that tomorrow’s (Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015) version will also end in favour of the Nigerian side.
He enjoined all sports lovers in the State and indeed, all Rivers people to turn out en mass and oblige the Super Eagles their maximum support and prayers for a resounding victory over the visiting southern African country.
