Gov. Shettima apologises to Borno workers for not paying salaries before Sallah

Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno State
BY ABDULLAHI ISAH, MAIDUGURI
The Borno state Governor Hon. Kashim Shettima has apologized to the state’s civil servants for his government’s inability to pay them their June salaries due to some hitches beyond his control.
Governor Shettima tendered the apology in his Sallah message, when he played host to members of his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, stakeholders and security operatives to a Sallah lunch at the Government House Maiduguri.
He said “I sincerely apologized to the workers for our inability to pay their June salary for the Sallah due to some hitches. It is not a deliberate act. We were able to pay members of the Environmental Vanguard and Civilian JTF, because their payment was done through table payment but immediately after the public holiday, we are going to pay them on Wednesday.”
The governor also called on party loyalists to unite to move the state forward, as the task before the state is enormous, adding that the state is also facing the danger of famine, as for many years, people were not able to go to farm due to Boko Haram insurgency.
Shettima commended the Federal Government for the release of 15,000 metric tons of grains to cushion the hardship faced by the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, stressing that government is going to commence the distribution of grains to host communities, as according to him, many of the IDPs were living within the host communities and most of the NGOs have not being focusing on them.
While commending the security agencies, Shettima said all hands must be on deck to see that lasting peace is restored in the North-east, pointing out that in the coming weeks they are going to discuss with the military to see how to address the recent Boko Haram attacks in the state.
