Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has assured that his administration would take concrete measures to remove barriers that hinder the successful completion of New Haven – Nsukka, 132 km Electricity Transmission line currently being handled by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company in partnership with the National Integrated Power Project.
He gave this assurance when he received in audience the management team of the Power Holding Company which paid him a courtesy call at Government House, Enugu.
The governor expressed dissatisfaction over some lingering disputes that had impeded the progress of the project, pointing out that such disputes involving such communities as Umulumgbe, Nike, Agbamere, Umualor and Opi which were still pending in court would soon be resolved.
The state chief executive reassured the team that his administration would do whatever was necessary to ensure speedy completion of the project. According to Governor Ugwuanyi, Enugu State indigenes are peace loving and would willingly cooperate with government to ensure the actualization of the project and other federal government projects in the state. Earlier in his address, the leader of the team, Engr. Chidi Ugbo, who is the Managing Director, Power Holding Company, commended the governor for creating an enabling environment for investors to invest in the state, adding that his administration had turned Enugu State into a true investment haven in the region.
He recalled that his company was mandated to transmit light to all Nigerians under a contract that would last for ten years, but regretted that the problem being encountered with some communities in the South East had hindered the completion of the projects in the zone especially the New Haven- Nsukka project.
He therefore pleaded with the governor to enter into discussions with all the stake holders and claimants in the matters to resolve the outstanding disputes.
