Great Minds Initiative (GMI), a non-governmental organization, registered six years ago in the United States of America (USA) and made up of male Nigerian graduates, will hold its 2022 Annual Convention and Dinner Party on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the Holiday Inn, 11160 South West Freeway Houston, Texas, 77031, USA.
Patterned on the principles of Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) but without regards to creed or ethnicity, the GMI has the overriding goal of turning boys into responsible and dependable men, and men into outstanding husbands and fathers with each member holding the other accountable and being appropriate role models and supporting each other.
The national president of the Initiative, Mr. Tsola Omagbemi, is hosting the annual gala night/ dinner on May 14 to celebrate the end of another successful tenure. The event is open to friends and associates of the organisation and funds raised are deployed to assisting local charities.
Members also volunteer to work with these charities, offering, apart from their funds, their professional expertise and time. According to one of the Elders of the Organisation, Boris Emeka Oji MD, the last outing of the group was in Oakland, California three years ago when they volunteered at the St. Mary’s Food Bank and Homeless Shelter where they gave their all to the astonishment of the inmates and staff who were surprised to see such number of black male professionals helping out in the Shelter rather than being the inmates.
Emeka Oji, who spoke glowingly of the impact that the GMI has made so far, said “I am very proud of what we have accomplished and continue to accomplish. I want to use this forum to thank the national president, Chief Tsola Omagbemi, for a successful tenure that has been innovative and inspirational and to thank him and his executives for setting us on the right part to success.
“I also pray that the incoming executives will continue with the same stride and build on it. I wish GMI, her members and associates a successful general meeting and gala night. This has, indeed, been a great journey.”
