Ahead of the governorship election in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa state by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the leadership of Restoration Youths Network, REYNET has appealed to youths of Southern Ijaw to shun political thuggery and snatching of electoral materials.

REYNET also appealed to politicians to advise their supporters and loyalists to desist from killing, maiming and destruction of lives and property as Bayelsa state belongs to only Bayelsa people.

Director General of REYNET, Alfred Kemepado stated this in Yenagoa while condemning the electoral frauds and mayhems that characterized the December 5th and 6th governorship elections in some parts of the state.

Kemepado described Governor Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Chief Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress APC as the two major candidates for the election and not the youths.

The youth leader called on the candidates to advise their supporters to keep off from all manner of electoral violence and ensure that the peace accord signed before INEC, geared towards promoting peace and unity before and after the election, is upheld.

Kemepado urged the Southern Ijaw and Bayelsa youths to only cast their votes for political parties of their choice on election day and desist from any form of electoral violence.

Reminding the politicians of their peace accord, Kemepado said the only way to respect the peace accord is when the candidates tell their supporters and loyalists to shun electoral violence and frauds and not the mere signing of the accord.

He said that “election is never a do or die affair, but a political contest from which a winner must surely emerge at the end,” urging politicians to “tell all your supporters to sheathe their swords and let Bayelsans go for a credible, free and fair election in Southern Ijaw local government Area.”
