Some President Muhammadu Buhari support groups have exposed “alleged plots by dubious political double-dealers, paid merchants and insidious elements to hatch smear campaigns to discolour the rising political and professional profiles of some eminent pro-Buhari figures in the Buhari administration,” warning that the true identities of those sponsoring the attempts to blackmail these personalities would be exposed if they persist in their political treachery.”
In a statement issued after a meeting in Kano at the weekend, the groups under the auspices of Pan- Buhari Solidarity Movement (PBSM) accused “some deceptive political elements of sponsoring some so-called Civil Society Groups to raise dust on some non-existent issues.”
The PSBM, which listed some staunch Pro-Buhari propagators and key members of the Buhari Next level Agenda, who are targets of the planned smear campaign as Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, among others, said it will soon expose “the real names behind the blackmailers if they persist in their deceits.”
Dr Abubakar Gusau, who signed the statement on behalf of the PBSM restated the Pan-Buhari Movement’s unequivocal support for and commitment to the trio of Gbajabiamila, Omo-Agege and Emefiele, stressing that they have all seen the clandestine hands of “some deceitful politicians who are behind these hatchet jobs to smear the eminent profiles and reputations of these three figures and others that they are also planning to blackmail.”
He said: “It has come to our knowledge as members of the Pan-Buhari Solidarity Movement(PBSM) that some persons who, out of sheer political jealousy, deviousness and treachery, and who are bent on fighting against Buhari’s reform policies, are now targeting some figures that are most committed and extremely dedicated to the Buhari program of taking Nigeria to the Next level by launching smear campaigns against them. Among those being targeted by these blackmailers are DSP Senator Omo-Agege, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila and CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele. These are men who have received accolades for their excellent handling of their various responsibilities. Take the case of DSP Omo-Agege, he has excellently deputized for the Senate President, worked assiduously in support of the Next level Agenda and supported the leadership of the Senate in creating a sustained harmony between the executive and the legislature which have produced results.
“These paid agents are obviously not happy and they are coming up with mischief. Even when his spokesman stated clearly that he has a clean bill of health – that he was declared innocent by the honourable Lance A. Ito who presided over the popular O.J. Simpson murder trial case and G. Magnera of the Court of California, County of Los Angeles. That Omo-Agege had to fight hard for his innocence and God vindicated him against the expectations of evil men like the most sadistic blackmailer in the world. And today, Omo-Agege remains an active member in good standing at the State of California Bar Association – an impossibility if a valid and subsisting conviction were hanging on him. These are verifiable pubic facts and truths.”’
On Gbajabiamila, the PBSM accused some agents within political circles of attempting to dig up fake items that have since been satisfactorily addressed by Gbajabiamila just to attempt to smear his profile. “These same blackmailers, in their bid not to hide their envy, accused Gbajabiamila of being found guilty by the US Supreme Court of Georgia in February 2007. But not-withstanding Speaker Gbajabiamila’s defence that he has never been convicted for any crime in the US, Nigeria or anywhere, these blackmailers will not rest. It is clear that these sinister blackmailers funded by anti-Buhari elements still want to smear his rising profile just because he is a known supporter and key pro-Buhari element who has worked to smoothen the legislative-executive relationship.”
Also speaking on alleged attempt to smear the rising reputation of the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Emefiele, the PNSM said “the blackmailers showed their hands everywhere in their treachery to hit at pro-Buhari elements when they attacked the CBN governor.” According to Dr. Guasau: “some dubious elements who are envious of Emefiele’s closeness to the President attempted to blackmail him so that the President will be angry with Emefiele. But we all saw through the tricks and treachery of these shady characters who pretend to be with us yet they are working clandestinely against us.”
The pro-Buhari group, while restating its commitment to the Next Level agenda of the Buhari administration, said it “would not therefore fold its hands and allow a group of clannish, devilish and insidious characters who are neck deep in the corruption cesspool of the past, and are bent on reversing the political clock to smear the rising profiles of these eminent pro-Buhari political leaders and technocrats whose excellent performances and strides have brought accolades, pride and joy to the APC and the government in general.”
