Gunmen on killing spree in Rivers communities; two soldiers, 19 civilians confirmed dead

Unknown gunmen, Friday, killed at least two soldiers and injuring 19 others in the Aluu Clan, in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Witnesses said sporadic shots fired by the gunmen suspected to be a cult gang claimed the lives of two other yet-to-identified soldiers at Omagwa community near the Port Harcourt International Airport.
The cultists who were on a killing spree also destroyed house hold items in some homes they visited that fateful night.
The shootings which were attributed to cult activities also forced residents of the nine communities to remain indoors as shops were closed to business.
The gunmen who also caused panic in the troubled area made life uncomfortable as movements of persons were restricted forcing the villagers to sleep with one eye closed.
Motorbikes, Tricycles were restricted from plying the communities to the University of Port Harcourt junction as fear grip most of the divers
Aluu community is home to the University of Port Harcourt, Shell Petroleum Development Company,(Agbada Flow station) and the Rural Development Training Centre, Aluu, ( Man O War).
The cults’ rampage which caused tears to flow freely in the communities saw six innocent persons killed in Omuoda, five in Omuigwe, One in Omuvhiolu and another six persons killed in Omuahunwo community all in Aluu clan.
Although normalcy has since returned to the communities as the men of the Nigeria Army took control, following the killings, Friday night in the areas.
None of the rampaging cultists has yet been arrested by the security agencies. This is as the Nigeria Army has vow to arrest anybody or group of persons sponsoring or aiding cult related activities in the area.
Meanwhile the men of the Nigeria Army on Saturday afternoon rescued a Traditional Ruler Chief Kenneth Nwobunwo who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Aluu community.
The monarch who was abducted over two weeks ago was rescued in one of the forest in Aluu by the soldiers and handed over to the community chiefs and Elders of the Clan
The Monarch who also doubles as Chairman, Aluu Council of Chiefs was kidnapped in the heat of the cults’ rampage in the communities, as asked for the beefing of security by both the state and the federal governments ahead of resumption by students of University of Port Harcourt .
