UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned deadly attack on a mosque in San Diego, in California, in which three people were killed.
Police said two teenage gunmen opened fire at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday and killed three men before killing themselves a few blocks away.
The attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego is being investigated as a hate crime, San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl said at a news conference at a neighborhood park across from the mosque.
The mosque is just east of Mission Bay, which is about 20 minutes north of downtown San Diego.
Guterres, in a statement by his spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, on Tuesday, reaffirmed that attacks on places of worship were particularly heinous.
He stressed the urgent need to confront hatred and intolerance in all their forms.
The Secretary-General extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.
He stands in solidarity with the Muslim community and calls for a full investigation into the attack.
