Dr Blessing Nwagba on Saturday picked the ticket as the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Abia South Senatorial District ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Nwagba was initially returned unopposed after it was reported that her main rival, Mr. Kasarachi Enyinnaya, had stepped down for her.
Enyinnaya later came to the venue, Aba Recreation Club, where he addressed the delegates and alleged that he was asked by the party to step down for Nwagba.
After the allegation, the organisers thought it wise to conduct an election and the delegates were given papers to write the name of their preferred candidate.
The votes were counted, and Nwagba scored 270 votes while Enyinnaya had 31 votes.
The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Maj.-Gen Victor Nnorom, said that the number of accredited delegates was 320 while the total number of persons who voted was 315.
Nnorom further said that the total number of valid votes at the election was 309.
He further commended the contestants and the delegates for making the primary election peaceful.
Nwagba also thanked the delegates and her co-contestant for the role they played in her emergence.
“I am grateful to my party and my people for having the confidence in me to choose me to represent them in the 2023 Senatorial district election for Abia South.
“I am promising them that I will campaign sufficiently and work assiduously for us to emerge victorious in that election,” she said
