Hoodlums loot shops, stores as DSP Alamieyeseigha’s remains arrive Bayelsa

As a prelude to the burial of Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha in Amassoma on Saturday, hoodlums and miscreants parading the streets of Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital on Friday morning looted shops and stores in the city carting away goods worth millions of Naira.

The hoodlums also forced business premises and eateries to close to the public as the irate youths mourned their fallen hero in their own way.

The hoodlums carted away handsets and some other valuables looted from shops and stores in the state capital as they awaited the arrival of the corpse of Alamieyeseigha in Yenagoa from Port Harcourt City.

Although none of the miscreants were arrested as they brandished dangerous weapons including knives to scare away passersby before disappearing into thin air.

The leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, had in an announcement in the state radio ordered shops and business outfits to close to the public as a mark of honor for DSP Alamieyeseigha.

The order to close shops and eateries by the leadership of the IYC made life difficult for residents of the city as most restaurants were forced to close down to the public while movement was restricted in some parts of the state.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa state government on Thursday, organized a public lecture, night of songs and tributes to late DSP Alamieyeseigha who died on October 10, 2015.

The lecture was delivered by renowned scholar, Prof G G Darah and former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan and other leading politicians and elder statesmen attended the ceremony.

The remains of the late former governor was laid out in the state banquet Hall, Government House for a brief valedictory session at 3.pm Friday and later taken to his country home, Amassoma, Bayelsa state for Christian wake at 7 pm on Friday.

Late DSP Alamieseyesigha would be buried on Saturday afternoon in his home town, Amassoma, Bayelsa state.
