The Administrative Secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commision (INEC) in Borno State, Alhaji Abdulhamid Buba has said that the INEC has created additional 11 registration centres in the state, bringing the total to 38 registration centres.
Alhaji Abdulhamid Buba who disclosed this to newsmen in a press briefing held at the INEC headquarters, Maiduguri said the additional centres are Lassa and Uba in Askira/Uba local government area, Mringa in Biu local Government, Banki in Bama local government area and Bakasi camp for Gwoza local government area.
Others are Maimusari Primary School, Mairi in Jere, Pompomari Primary School in Konduga local government area, Mafoni Day Secondary School in MMC, MOGOLIS camp for Mobar local government area and Teachers Village camp for Ngala local government area.
He said in the on-going Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) Borno had so far registered a total of 47, 572 voters making it one of the five states with the highest number of CVR numbers out of the 36 states of the Federation.
Alhaji Buba stated that a series of meetings were held to inform relevant/critical stakeholders on this development, adding that two days training of staff was conducted for the manning of the new centres, while meetings with EOs, ICCES members and political parties were also held.
The Executive Secretary said “ so far 8,105 number of replaced or defaced PVCs and 731 transfer cases were recorded , 20,043 cards were distributed while 73,223 PVCs were unclaimed.”
He, therefore, implored the general public to use the opportunity of the newly created centres to come out and register, as there will be no voting without PVCs, adding that the CVR will be closed to the public 60 days from the February 2019 general elections.
