Akwa Ibom branch of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has called on the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, to provide patrol vehicles and logistic support to the Nigeria Police, Akwa Ibom State Command to boost their efficiency in crime fighting.
The call is sequel to the upsurge in crime wave – armed robbery, cultism and allied matters -and the need for the Police to combat the recent upsurge of crimes in the state.
The CLO, in a press release, dated Monday, 26th July, 2021 which was made available to newsmen in Uyo by its Chairman, Otuekong Franklyn Isong and State Secretary, Barrister Christopher Ekpo, noted that residents of the State no longer sleep with their eyes closed, because of the current high rate of crime in parts of the State.
The statement further disclosed that CLO, is alarmed at the sudden disappearance of Police patrol vehicles from the State, which from discreet investigation pointed to the dearth of Police patrol vehicles and logistics to the command.
The body however, commended the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for his prior interventions to enhance the efficiency of the Police in the State, even in the face of dwindling economy.
