The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) PLC, has ordered its Business Units in Gombe to return all monies collected from customers for the supply of prepaid meters.
Jos DISCO orders return of money to customers who bought pre-paid meters in error
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of JED PLC, Alhaji Gidado Modibbo, gave the order during a Consumers Consultative Forum meeting between the management and its customers in Gombe.
Represented by the company’s Executive Director, Marketing and Investment, Mr. Verr Jirbo, the MD CEO of JED said the money will however be returned through equivalents of units subscription for power.
He restated that the prepaid meters are supplied by the company free and cautioned customers never to give in to any staff who insists on payment before supply except in extremely exceptional cases.
He said the business oriented company is very much aware that electricity is an important success factor for any economy as such customers should not expect to use electricity without paying for it.
The Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo who was represented by his Commissioner for Rural Development, Mr. Hassan Ahmadu Haruna expressed regret that despite investing over N12.5 billion in terms of the procurement of transformers, prompt payment of its bills among many others, the government has nothing to show for it especially in the terms of power supply to the State.
He said the State Government had embarked on a systematic approach to solve the issue of power supply to the entire State through the electrification of not less than 350 communities and provision of no fewer than 179 transformers for various communities as well.
He expressed the readiness of the State Government to have a cordial working relationship with JED PLC adding, “Our people are suffering for lack of power in spite of our huge investment more so, you people are just collecting money from customers without anything to show for it.”
