A medical outreach sponsored by House of Representatives’ member, Abubakar Umar (APC-Yabo/Shagari) has commenced on Monday with no fewer than 2,500 patients being targeted.
The outreach, according to the lawmaker, is part of his Constituency Project to support his constituents to access free medical consultations, provision of drugs and referrals.
“As a popular saying goes, health is wealth and one can only become active if he is healthier, as such, that motivated my concentration in that direction.
“This is one of our responsibilities as elected representatives of the people.
“Therefore, I want to assure the people that we will continue in this direction until we achieve our desire of ensuring no patient dies due to lack of proper medical care,” he said.
Umar urged the people of the constituency to come out and access the opportunity, while highlighting some of his other achievements.
He listed the provision of potable water, electricity, roads and bursaries as some of the services he has rendered his constituents.
Mr. Fatai Abiodun, the representative of the Federal Ministry of Health, appreciated the lawmaker for initiating the medical outreach.
“This is a great idea that will generally bolster the health conditions of the people, as well as ease their hardship of accessing proper medications,” he said.
Abiodun added that “our presence at the event is in order to monitor and observe the exercise”, while commending the lawmaker for ensuring wider enlightenment on the programme.
Earlier, the Head of the Medical team, Dr Safiyanu Yabo, said the outreach is targeting patients suffering from various illnesses across Shagari and Yabo Local Government Areas that make up the constituency.
“We have categorised the exercise into three stages that include general surgical cases, eye surgery and general consultation.
“Under surgical cases, we are targeting no fewer than 200 patients, while on eye surgeries, we are going to operate on no fewer than 300 beneficiaries.
“However, our target on consultancy of other illnesses is no fewer than 2,000 patients,” he said.
