Condolences have been pouring in on account of the demise of Madam Paulina Akpan Ekong, mother-in-law of sports journalism icon and football administrator par excellence, Paul Bassey.
Madam Paulina Ekong, alias Mma Teacher was aged 85 years (1934-2019) before her home call.
The rites of passage have since commenced and the Funeral Mass would hold on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 10 am at St. Peter Catholic Church, Adiasim, Essien Udim L.G.A, Akwa Ibom State while a Memorial/Thanksgiving Mass will hold on Sunday, July 28, 2019, also at St. Peter Catholic Church, Adiasim, Essien Udim L.G.A of Akwa Ibom State at 10 am prompt.
As part of the arrangements to bid the departed Matriarch a glorious farewell, a Service of Songs was held on Friday, July 19, 2019 at Estate Festival Hall, Gowon Estate, Egbeda, Lagos State while a Novelty Football match is being played, Wednesday, July 24, 2019 between Akwa United Football Club and Adiasim Old Stars at Kizito Com. Sec. Sch. Adiasim, Essien Udim L.G. A. Akwa Ibom State.
Paul Bassey, a highly celebrated pioneer of sports journalism, is currently the Chairman of Akwa United Football Club of Akwa Ibom, a member of the Technical Committee of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, and a Confederation of African Football, CAF, General Co-ordinator and Instructor, Club Licensing.
He is also a FIFA Match Commissioner.
