
Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi, will deliver the third edition of the Chief (Dr) John Agboola Odeyemi Annual Lecture, of the Natural History Museum of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, on Friday, April 29th.
He will be speaking on the topic: “Harnessing Our Natural and Cultural Heritage for National Development.”
According to a letter from the University, the Natural History Museum, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, was established in 1971 to conduct research into the vast natural and cultural history of Nigeria, among others.
The annual lecture is being organised in recognition of the need to preserve the country’s natural and cultural heritage and in honour of Chief Agboola Odeyemi, erstwhile National President of NACIMMA for his immense contributions to the preservation of natural and cultural heritage.
Aside the Institute Fundamental Afrique Noir in Dakar, Senegal, the Museum is the only Natural History Museum in West Africa.
The annual lecture, according to the Chairman, Planning Committee, Dr Adisa Ogunfolakan, will enhance town and gown relationship between this important research institute and the immediate environment as well as wider and remote communities in and outside Nigeria.
