Man kills former roommate over cooking pot

Police detectives in Akwa Ibom have arrested one Samuel Cosmas Akpan for allegedly stabbing his former room mate, Ubong Pellen Solomon to death.

The tragedy happened on Saturday morning at No. 18 Idak Okpo area, a suburb within the Uyo metropolis, where the population is largely students of both the University of Uyo and the Uyo City Polytechnic.

The suspect said to hail from Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, is presently cooling his feet at “A”Division, Police Area Command, Uyo, while the corpse of the deceased, from Akpabuyo in Cross River State has been deposited in the morgue.

According to an eye witness, “the incident occurred on Saturday morning at 18, Idak Okpo Lane, Uyo.

“The deceased had buried his late mother recently at Mbiokporo cemetery, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, and was trying to recover from that experience when this incident happened,” the witness said.

He said the deceased was an apprentice on electrical trade in Uyo, but was having an argument with his former roommate (the suspect), who came to pick up some of his remaining household items after he had left to live somewhere else in the city.

“The suspect, had gone to carry his remaining items from his former roommate at 18, Idak Okpo Lane, when an argument broke out, as the deceased refused to release one pot to him, saying he wanted to use the pot for cooking.

“But, the suspect insisted he must go with the pot and suddenly, brought out a knife and stabbed him by the lower region of the stomach.

“We rushed him to the University of Uyo Clinic, where he died”, the source said.

The suspected, observing that the situation had changed, took to his heels but was apprehended by the community youths who took him to the Police.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Odiko Macdon confirmed the incident saying, “the suspect has confessed to the crime and will be charged to court when the investigation is completed.”
