Crisis seems to be brewing in the Edo State chapter of Sport Writers Association of Nigeria,SWAN over an illegal award nite Ceremony.
In a statement made available in Benin by EBOJELE AKHERE PATRICK, Financial Secretary, Edo SWAN for and on behalf of members urged members of the public to be wary of the scam.
The statement reads in part: “The attention of the undersigned members of the Edo State chapter of Sport Writers Association of Nigerian SWAN, has been drawn to a purported SWAN week and award nite slated for tomorrow in Benin City, the Edo State capital by one Agbona Ahmed.
“For the avoidance of doubt, there was no time or place that the executive members or congress held a meeting to set up a committee to screen or nominate persons for such recognition.
“That the said Ahmed Agbona who is the state chairman of SWAN has also negated the constitution of SWAN by assuming the role and function of other officers of the association.
“We wish to by this statement disassociate ourselves from what we have discovered to be fraud and sham being perpetuated by the organiser of the award.
“We hereby advice members of the public to be wary of the scam as the said award does not have the authorisation of the National body.”
