Dignitaries from across the country gathered at Akpautong in Esit Eket local government area of Akwa Ibom on Saturday to bid late Mrs. Grace Eyiboh farewell at the age of 90.
In his tribute, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, urged Mr. Eseme Eyiboh and siblings to emulate the good legacy of their late mother.
Akpabio, represented by the Chairman, Senate Committee on media and publicity, Sen. Yemi Adaramodu, said the deceased was a woman of virtue and compassion.
He reminded the children that their late mother left behind great legacies for them and for the community to emulate.
“Although she enjoyed longevity, the loss of such a caring mother precipitates grave emotions, especially when the memories of her sacrificial love and the bond you shared are contextualized.
“Deaconess Grace Eyiboh had an intriguing history of hope and faith.
“As an entrepreneur with vast business acumen, she used her earnings to support her husband in training the children.
“The result is the strides you have all made which point to sterling upbringing.
“As it is often said, it is what you put in today’s child that you have in tomorrow’s man,” Akpabio said.
In his tribute, Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, represented by his Political Adviser, Mr. Godwin Ntukudeh, described the late matriarch as a resourceful and virtuous woman.
Eno said that Akwa Ibom state will greatly miss the deceased, who nurtured young women in tailoring to make them self-reliant.
Earlier, Eseme Eyiboh, spokesperson of the Senate President, who is the chief mourner, paid glowing tributes to his late mother, describing her as a virtuous women with impeccable character worthy of emulation.
The dignitaries that graced the funeral ceremony include the wife of the Senate President, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, Senator Ekong Sampson, representing Akwa Ibom South senatorial district and former minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen. Udoma Udo Udoma.
