Mbakwe Airport fire: FAAN dismisses video of casualties

FAAN MD, Engr. Saleh Dunoma

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has dismissed as false and malicious a video trending online showing people who suffered burns and purporting that they are casualties of the fire that gutted parts of the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri.

FAAN’s reaction to the video, by Henrietta Yakubu (Mrs.) General Manager, Corporate Affairs of the Authority stated “unequivocally that there was no casualty, as the fire was swiftly curtailed by officers of our Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services,” and advised “those spreading this falsehood to desist from such acts in their own interest.”

The Authority had, in an earlier statement, also by Mrs Yakubu, confirmed the fire incident, stating that there were no casualties, that normal operations had since resumed at the airport and that preliminary investigations into the cause of the incident had commenced.
