Mikel, Iheanacho storm Super Eagles camp; as squad swells to 17 ahead Swaziland clash

Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi and Manchester City rookie Kelechi Iheanacho joined Super Eagles camp, Tuesday morning, as numbers of invited players swelled to 17 ahead Friday’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Swaziland.

Aside Mikel and Iheancho, Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi, Turkey-based Godfrey Oboabona, Genk midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, Monaco defender Elderson Echiejile and Russia-based Sylvester Igbonu arrived at breakfast time on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Abuja camp on Monday evening welcomed Sunshine Stars’ Paul Onobi, Ezekiel Bassey of Enyimba, Shooting Stars’ Jamiu Alimi, Kalu Orji of Enugu Rangers.

Wolverhampton’s Carl Ikeme,  Watford FC’s Odion Ighalo, Dele Alampasu and Ikechukwu Ezenwa of Sunshine Stars, Sharks’ Chima Akas and Abia Warriors’ Austin Oboroakpo are also at the Bolton White Apartments, Abuja.

Still expected are captain Ahmed Musa of CSKA Moscow, Obafemi Martins, Moses Simon of Gent, Slovakia based Rabiu Ibrahim, Ogenyi Onazi of Lazio, Celtic’s Efe Ambrose and Portugal-based Abdullahi Shehu.

According to Toyin Ibitoye, the media officer of the Super Eagles, more players are expected at lunch time on Tuesday as training will begin in the evening by 4pm.

Nigeria will travel to Swaziland for the first leg in Lobamba on Friday, November 13 and the return leg will take place at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, November 17.
