Former Super Eagles midfielder, Mikel Obi, and some Nigerian football fans have taken to the social media to mourn former Super Eagles striker, Michael Eneramo, who collapsed and died on Friday.

The former Esperance of Tunisia forward collapsed after playing for about five minutes into the second half of a friendly match on Friday in Kaduna.

Efforts to revive him proved abortive as he was later pronounced dead.

Former Super Eagles Captain, Mikel Obi, posted Eneramo’s picture with a dove emoji on his Obi One’s Podcast page.

It was followed by a video of Eneramo’s famous World Cup qualifier goal against Tunisia on the Eagles’ Facebook page.

Another message on the Super Eagles X handle read “Rest in peace, Michael”.

Fans of the Super Eagles have also expressed shock on the demise of the former Lobi Stars striker.

Reacting to the news, Victor Daniel described Eneramo as a man that did his community proud.

“When he scored that goal against Tunisia in 2009, my entire hometown roared, because he was one of us.

“We will never forget that evening; an Ihima boy playing for the Super Eagles and scoring an all-important goal when the entire town was watching. Rest in peace man.”

Another Fan recalled Eneramo’s goal against Ireland.

“I remember the goal he scored in the 30th minute of the game against Ireland too; superb goal.”

Eneramo played ten times for Nigeria and scored 3 goals.

He played for Lobi Stars in the Nigerian Premier League before joining Esperance of Tunisia in 2004.

The late Eneramo  scored 51 goals in 81 appearances for the Tunisian giants before moving to Turkey, where he had spells with Sivaspor and Besiktas.
