Police authorities in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital have confirmed the recovery of huge cache of arms and ammunition from some suspected gun runners in the state.
Commissioner of Police, Nasiru Oki confirmed this in Yenagoa while reacting to the recent shootings at Okpoama in Brass and in Southern Ijaw parts of the State on the eve of the poll on Saturday morning.
Oki did not mention how many persons that were arrested nor did he reveal their identities, but insisted that some suspects have been arrested in connection with the shootings.
Recall that residents of Brass communities experienced heavy gun shots allegedly fired by hired gunmen to scare away voters with some persons sustaining injuries.
Although security has been beefed up in the the state with the additional deployment of 14,000 Police men across the communities in the state.
Police has also restricted movement of persons and vehicles in the state as shops and eateries have been closed to the public, while Police patrol vehicles are monitoring the conduct of the polls.
