The Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Malam Ali M. Ali, says he is committed to upgrading the Agency’s facilities nationwide.
Ali also disclosed that the agency would soon reactivate its zonal and state offices to facilitate the efficient and timely dissemination of news and multimedia contents that suit the modern global needs.
Ali made the remark when he visited the NAN Sokoto Zonal office on Saturday, stressing that the management was conscious of the technology-driven strategies in modern journalism which NAN needed to exploit.
He explained that a full studio and newsroom with modern equipment is envisaged to be established in the zonal office which covers Sokoto State, Kebbi and Zamfara.
The Managing Director also said that some NAN offices were undergoing renovation and more would soon follow.
Ali stressed that as part of the efforts, the agency has commenced the transmission of its contents in vernacular languages, beginning with the NAN Hausa portal.
According to him, the management is making efforts to provide working tools, furniture and other incentives to the staffers in order to achieve the desired objectives.
Ali said the agency has embarked on a series of training programmes to build the capacity of the members of staff.
He added that the agency has ensured remarkable improvement in the editorial department, saying, ‘’we now publish good and quality stories.”
The managing director encouraged all the reporters to be innovative and bring in businesses into the agency to boost its revenue generation.
He further urged journalists to jealously guard the journalism profession and ensure the elimination of quackery as well as dissemination of fake news.
Responding, the Zonal Manager, Malam Habibu Harisu, thanked the Managing Director on the visit, which he said, served as motivation to the workers.
He also appealed for the provision of more working tools and other facilities.
