Adeleke emerges Accord Party candidate for 2026 Osun governorship election

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday became the Accord Party’s candidate for the 8 August 2026 governorship election.

Adeleke was the only aspirant in the primary held in Osogbo. He received 145 out of the 150 votes cast by delegates from the state’s 30 local government areas. Five votes were declared invalid.

The Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Abdulazeez Salaudeen, announced the result and declared Adeleke the winner of the primary. He said the voting and counting were witnessed by party agents and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Adeleke, his deputy, Kola Adewusi, and several political appointees were present at the event. There was heavy security at the venue, with armed police and Department of State Services (DSS) operatives on duty, while INEC officials observed the process.

However, some notable figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including Osun State PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi, Speaker of the House of Assembly Wale Egbedun, state lawmakers, and members of the National Assembly elected on the PDP platform, were absent.

The Accord Party’s national chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, led the party leadership to the primary.

Adeleke had announced on Tuesday that he had joined the Accord Party and would seek a second term in office on the Party’s platform. He said he joined the party on November 6 after consulting widely with stakeholders.

He added that the party’s belief in welfarism aligns with his commitment to citizens’ and workers’ welfare, and promised to continue providing good governance and democratic benefits.
