NFF President denies search for new Super Eagles Head Coach

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has denied knowledge of reports linking the country with search for a new Super Eagles Head Coach.

As reported on multiple media platforms, Nigeria is in search of a new coach ahead of the expiration of the contract of the current coach, Jose Peseiro, in June. But this news sounds strange to the Football Federation helmsman.

Alhaji Gusau admitted that though Peseiro’s contract could be terminated, he said that no decision has been reached on the matter by the Football Federation Board.

“I don’t know where they got these reports from because I have not mandated anybody to search for a new coach neither has NFF opened discussions with anyone to replace our current coach,” Gusau said on Friday.

“To be candid, we have not even at board level taken a decision on Peseiro’s contract not to talk of engaging a new coach.

“All I can tell you is that the NFF will decide whether to extend Paseiro’s contract or terminate it soon when we meet.

“Honestly, I don’t know where they got those stories from. Whatever decision we reach shall be made public,” the NFF president stated.

Nigeria face Sierra Leone in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier days in June before Jose Peseiro’s one-year contract expires.
