Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has described the sudden death of a Vanguard Newspaper reporter, Mr. Tordue Salem, as very sad and worrisome.

Dabiri-Erewa stated this in her condolence message made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by NiDCOM’s Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Mr. Abdur-Rahman Balogun, on Sunday in Abuja.

The NiDCOM chairman described the late Salem, whom she said she worked closely with during her sojourn in the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2015, as very hardworking, easy going and a go-getter.

She said that although her three-term tenure had lapsed since 2015, she and the late journalist still kept in touch, recalling that her last conversation with him was just a few days before his sudden disappearance.

“The disappearance and sudden death of Tordue Salem at this time is very pathetic and disturbing, as he was cut short of a promising dream,” she said.

While advising security operatives to unravel the circumstances that led to his disappearance and eventual death, Dabiri-Erewa prayed God to grant the family, the NASS Press Corps, the NUJ family and others the fortitude to bear the loss.

She also prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed and for God to grant him eternal rest.

NAN reports that Tordue was found dead in Abuja on Thursday, weeks after he disappeared and was declared missing by family members and his organisation.

The body of the late journalist, who was the National Assembly correspondent of Vanguard Newspaper, was reported found on Nov. 11, almost a month after his disappearance.

He was last seen alive around Total filling station, close to Force headquarters, Abuja, on Oct. 13, 2021.
