Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has assured Nigerians that the country can still rise to greatness despite its current economic and social difficulties.
In his message to mark Nigeria’s 65th anniversary, Obi said the vision of the nation’s founding fathers has been undermined by poor leadership, but insisted that hope for a better future remains strong.
He recalled how Nigeria was once seen as a promising African superpower at independence in 1960 and admired across the world for its potential. According to him, the resilience of the Nigerian people shows that the dream of a prosperous nation is still alive.
While criticising the present government for corruption, reckless borrowing, and misplaced spending priorities, Obi stressed that the focus should now be on building a new Nigeria. He said with competent, compassionate, and committed leadership, the country could return to the path of prosperity.
The former Anambra State governor urged investment in human capital, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and the rule of law. He added that other countries like China, India, and Indonesia had transformed themselves through disciplined leadership and people-centred policies, and Nigeria could do the same.
Calling on political leaders to put aside corruption, selfish interests, and division, Obi emphasised that Nigeria’s resources and talent were enough to make it a thriving and secure nation.
“Against all odds, we will return Nigeria to the path of prosperity and justice. We will not relent. We will not be discouraged. The mission is clear: Nigeria will rise again,” Obi declared.
