Nigeria’s passport has fallen to 90th place in the latest Henley Passport Index, but Nigerians can still travel to 44 destinations without getting a visa before leaving the country.
The July 2026 ranking, released by Henley & Partners, gave the Nigerian passport a visa-free score of 44. This means Nigerian passport holders can visit 44 destinations through visa-free entry, visa on arrival, or an electronic visa (e-visa), depending on each country’s immigration rules.
The Henley Passport Index ranks 199 passports based on how many destinations their holders can enter without obtaining a visa in advance, using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Nigeria dropped one place from 89th in the April 2026 rankings, although its visa-free score remained the same. However, the country’s passport has improved over the years, moving up from 94th place in 2025 and 103rd in 2021.
The 44 destinations available to Nigerian passport holders include Barbados, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Comoros, Cook Islands, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Dominica, Fiji, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Iran, Kenya, Kiribati, Lebanon, Liberia, Madagascar, Maldives, Mali, Mauritius, Micronesia, Montserrat, Mozambique, Niger, Niue, Palau, Rwanda, Samoa, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, St. Kitts and Nevis, The Gambia, Timor-Leste, Togo, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
Although these destinations do not require Nigerians to obtain a visa before travelling, entry conditions differ. Some countries allow visa-free entry, while others issue visas on arrival or require travellers to apply for an e-visa before departure.
Travellers are advised to check the latest immigration requirements with the relevant authorities before making travel arrangements.
