NLNG celebrates Prof. Bart Nnaji at 70, lauds science, innovation contributions

The Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has celebrated Prof. Bart Nnaji at 70, recognising his over two decades of contributions to the governance, credibility and global reach of The Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation.
According to a statement issued by the company on Monday, it honoured Nnaji, a former Minister of Power and Chairman of the Prize’s Advisory Board, at a colloquium marking his 70th birthday.
NLNG Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Adeleye Falade, described Nnaji as one of the Prize’s earliest advocates and longstanding advisers.
Falade was represented by the General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Mrs. Sophia Horsfall, at the colloquium.
Horsfall said Nnaji had been part of the Prize’s journey since its inception in 2004 through intellectual leadership, strategic counsel and sustained advocacy.
She said Nnaji helped shape the Prize’s vision, strengthen stakeholder confidence and advance scientific innovation and national development.
Horsfall recalled Nnaji delivered the keynote address at the inaugural Grand Award Night in Abuja on Oct. 9, 2004.
She said the address reinforced the Prize’s vision of promoting science and technology as drivers of national development.
According to her, Nnaji’s early endorsement increased awareness of the initiative among scientists, policymakers and other stakeholders.
Horsfall said Nnaji participated in a stakeholder review in 2013, providing strategic guidance that strengthened the Prize’s governance and administration.
She said the reforms reinforced the Prize’s processes and renewed stakeholder confidence in its administration.
Horsfall said Nnaji was appointed Chairman of the Advisory Board of The Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation in 2022.
She said he had since supported the Prize’s international reach through engagement with leading scientists and researchers worldwide.
Falade said Nnaji’s relationship with the Prize extended beyond formal responsibilities, making him an important part of its institutional history.
He wished Nnaji good health and many more years of impactful service to Nigeria and society.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation was established in 2004 and is sponsored by NLNG.
It recognises scientists and innovators providing practical solutions to challenges significant to Nigeria.
