NPFL: 2022/2023 season Matchday Five Summary

The 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League – NPFL entered its fifth Matchday on Wednesday February 1, 2023. Here is a summary of all ten (10) midweek games.

Echeta Deputy scored a 29th minute winner for perfect Bendel Insurance FC to beat hosts El-Kanemi Warriors 0-1 in Bauchi.

Nasarawa United continued their poor start to the season with a 1-2 loss to Plateau United. Ibrahim Mustapha scored the opening goal for Plateau United before veteran King Osanga equalized for Nassarawa United in the 30th minute. Onyebuchi Ifeanyi sealed victory for the victors in 69th minute. His fourth of the 2022/2023 season.

Remo Stars pipped Enyimba International FC by a lone goal in Ikenne, Ogun State. Samuel Aniekwe will go into the record books for his 26th second’s strike, the fastest goal of the 5-weeks old season.

Kwara United were 2-1 victors over Akwa United FC in Ibadan. Wasiu Alalade fired the Afonja warriors in front 14 minutes into the game. Cyril Olisema levelled scores for the Promise Keepers who thought they were going home with at least a point until Ahmed Jimoh scored the winner in the 86th minute.

Three second half goals decided the Gombe United vs Shooting Stars clash in favour of the home team. Yusuf Taiye bagged a 52nd and 61st minute brace to better Ghali Falke’s 65th Strike for the Stars.

Bello Lukman’s first half goal helped Abia Warriors to a 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes in Umuahia.

In Yenagoa, Bayelsa United and Doma United shared the spoils from a 1-1 draw. Samuel Enefiok (45) and Osabor Osahon (56) on target in either half of the tension-soaked encounter.

NPFL Champions, Rivers United, compounded Wikki Tourists’ woes with a 2-0 win in Port Harcourt.
Two set piece goals by Super Eagles player Ebube Duru secured maximum points for Stanley Eguma’s men on Matchday five.

Enugu Rangers bagged their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Dakkada FC.
Mohammed Olanrewaju was on target in the first half to seal a first win of the season for Abdul Maikaba tutored Rangers in Awka.

The last game of the matchday had Lobi Stars struggle to a 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars. Joseph Atule benefitted from a controversial penalty call to score a late winner for Lobi Stars.

Matchday six action will take place this weekend.
