The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it has set up a task force to monitor to ensure fuel sell at government regulated price of N86.50.
The state commandant of the Corp, Mr Chika Akubuiroh disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Benin City the Edo state capital.
Akubuiroh said the task force have been mandated to go round filling stations across the state to ensure marketers comply with the government regulated price for the product.
He lamented that marketers have been deliberated inflicting pains on Nigeria by selling above the government regulated price.
He warned that henceforth, all independent and major marketers must comply with the official price of N86.50.
He warned that any of the stations found to be selling above the official price would be prosecuted.
“We will be very serious about this and hope that dealers of the product change their mind and sell at government regulated price before the law catch up with them,” he said.
The regulated price have however been flouted by most filling stations across Benin.
While NNPC mega stations and few others such as MRS and Total that sell for at the official price, others dispense the product for between N100 and N130.
This situation has prompted most motorists to be spending endless hours on queue at NNPC mega stations for the product.
