Ohanaeze Ndigbo names 40 member Electoral Committee; Ohuabunwa, Obi, Nwosu, others listed

Chief John Nnia Nwodo
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex socio-cultural organization of Ndigbo worldwide, has constituted a 40 member Electoral Committee for its January 2021 transition poll.

The composition of the Committee seems to have laid to rest the issue of a consensus candidate for the position of the President General of the body which raised considerable dust recently.

Prominent among the names on the list released following the meeting of Ime-Obi on Sunday are Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Senator Ben Obi (Ojeligbo), Prof. A.B.C Nwosu, a former Minister, Barrister Oscar Onwudiwe and Mr. Emeka Ugwuoju.

Also listed are Chief Ejiofor Onyia, Chief Ferdinand Agu, Professor Charles Nwokeaku, Chief Hon. Dan Okenyi, Ugoeze Prof. Mrs. Ndimele and Chief Mrs. Uche Violet Obiora.

The Committee members are drawn from Abia, Anambra, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo and Rivers States as well as from stakeholder groups like AlaIgbo Development Foundation, ADF, Aka Ikenga, Ndigbo Lagos, the Diaspora, Ohanaeze Abuja, Ohanaeze Lagos and the Youth Wing.

The Committee is expected to husband a free, fair and transparent transition from the Chief John Nnia Nwodo executive that is generally adjudged to have performed excellently.

All eyes are now on the Committee, especially considering the controversy generated by endorsements by politicians for a particular candidate and allegations of external interference in the internal affairs of Ndigbo.

The aspirants to the position of President General are Dr. Joe Nwaorgu, Chief Goddy Uwazuruike, Professor Chidi Osuagwu, Chief Chris Asoluka and Professor George Obiozor.
