Former Governorship candidate of the United Progressive Party (UPP) in Abia State in the 2015 general election, Chief Ogbuehi Dike has congratulated Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on his re-election in the Saturday October 10, 2020, gubernatorial poll in Ondo State.
In his congratulatory message Chief Ogbuehi said “Akeredolu’s victory is an endorsement of his progressive governance in Ondo State in the past four years. He should see his renewed mandate as an opportunity to provide more dividends of democracy to the people and unite all stakeholders to join him in building a better Ondo State.”
A former National Publicity Secretary UPP, Ogbuehi noted that “though there were reported pockets of violence in some areas of the State and brazen vote buying by major political parties, the election reflected the will of the people.
“It also showed that Nigerians have a long way to go in conducting free, fair, credible and peaceful elections that meet international standards, and the need to adopt e-voting in future polls.”
Chief Ogbuehi, who also served as the National Publicity Secretary of the lnter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) called on the warring parties in the IPAC “to sheathe their swords, embrace dialogue and sort out their differences as eminent leaders of political parties, harmonize and pursue the laudable vision and mission of the Council in building a strong, virile, progressive and egalitarian democratic nation.
“l sue for peace, understanding and unity of purpose in running the affairs of the Council as a house divided against itself cannot stand. The need to carry stakeholders along cannot be overemphasized in the interest of the nation’s frail democracy,” he concluded.
