The former Commonwealth Secretary General, Mr. Emeka Anyaoku, on Thursday, inaugurated a library and museum at his Obosi country home in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra.
Anyaoku, who performed the inauguration during his 91st year birthday anniversary, said that all he acquired for the 34 years he put up as a civil servant was vested in the building that houses the museum and library.
He thanked God for attaining the age of 91, adding that himself and his wife, Bunmi, founded a foundation, named Emeka and Bunmi Anyaoku Foundation Centre in October 2008.
He noted that the Foundation avails scholars, researchers and the general public access to his repertoire of close interaction with the people and government of the diverse, 54 member nations of the Commonwealth, spread across the six continents of the globe.
According to him, the Centre houses a museum that exhibits cultural artefacts from Nigeria, Africa and multiracial commonwealth countries.
“It also has a library of books and materials, which include some of the personal papers of Chief Anyaoku, from his days in office, as Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations.
“Our mission is to promote the study and practice of democracy, management of diversity in Nigeria and Africa, respect for human rights and climate change. It also assists the education of the underprivileged children in Nigeria,” he said.
Earlier, the traditional ruler of Obosi, His Royal Highness, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, broke the colanut and prayed God to continue to protect and guide Anyaoku in all his undertakings.
Iweka expressed satisfaction with the establishment of the Centre in Obosi.
In his speech, the former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Osita Chidoka, described Anyaoku as the leader of Obosi community who has made the community proud.
