PDP Board of Trustees meets, charts way forward for party

PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) Wednesday held its maiden Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting where critical issues like how to bring back aggrieved members who felt short changed after the party primaries as well as those who still feel there should be a clean sweep of the national executive committee, NEC, of the party were discussed.
Similarly, the nature of opposition to be mounted against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and how to protect PDP interests in the President Muhammadu Buhari government equally topped the agenda.
Speaking after the meeting, Secretary of the PDP-BoT, Alhaji Walid Jubrin stated: “We have to set up a road map, an action plan which we are planning to do. We have invited for memorandum and we are just getting the memorandum from every member of the party for the way forward which we have come here to discuss to help the committee”.
He added that “we are also planning a special tour to the various zones to meet with the stakeholders and discuss with them and find out anybody capable of writing a memorandum on what we face and we are going to collect this by tomorrow we are meeting again to put all these things together and come up with a road map”.
Speaking as to if the party leadership was equal to the task of refocusing the party, the BoT secretary stressed: “The Board of Trustees is up to the task of providing guidance not only to the executives of the party but to members of the national assembly that is why we have involved ourselves very much in the collaboration with the National working committee to ensure that there is synergy between the appointments within the national assembly.
“We are calling on all our members to remain calm and not to be disturbed. We are doing our best to ensure sanity is brought to our party. Our party is going to pick up again and we are going to rebound.”

“As we are doing so, we need their cooperation and without their cooperation, I do not think we will succeed let them give us time so that we can do our best to ensure that we bring back the prominence of this party”.

Also speaking on the post mortem committee on the election headed by Senator Ike EKWEREMADU, he added that “wehave to be very careful at handling that matter.

“We have sought for an extension for up to 10 weeks to complete our job as three weeks will not allow us to do a proper job. We have asked the NWC to look at it and have accepted and granted the permission to extend it to 10 weeks. I do not think we are going to exceed that 10 weeks.

“The issue of the PDP governors Forum chairman has been resolved. There is no petition before the party on that. The Board of Trustees was not given any petition. I am telling you whatever the issue, the issue has been resolved already.

“Like you are aware the appointment of the acting Chairman Is for three months and after three months we will seat again, because by our constitution the board of trustees regulates it’s own activities. We will regulate our own activities when the time comes”.

New chairman of the BoT, Alhaji Bello Haliru Mohammed stressed that the PDP would engage APC in robust opposition politics and not on frivolous criticisms which he asserted was APC hallmark when PDP held sway.
