New Jersey’s Democratic Party gubernatorial candidates feature in live ‘Conversation’ today, Monday, May 12

Gubernatorial candidates of the Democratic Party in the forthcoming primaries in New Jersey, United States (US) will feature in a media-moderated discussion session, Monday, May 12, 2025 from 7:00PM.

The crucial discussion session, that will be moderated by NJ Spotlight News Anchor Briana Vannozzi and WNYC’s “Morning Edition” Host Michael Hill, will be broadcast and streamed live, across the Garden state and beyond, on major media platforms.

Tagged “NJ Decides 2025: Conversations with Gubernatorial Candidates,” the goal of the program, according to the organizers, “is to have the candidates engage in civil, solutions-based discussion about issues facing New Jersey, from affordability and health care to the environment and foreign affairs.”

The six candidates running in the Democratic Party primary, scheduled for June 10, 2025 are: Ras Baraka, Steve Fulop, Josh Gottheimer, Mikie Sherrill, Sean Spiller and Stephen Sweeney.

Republican gubernatorial candidates were hosted on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 and their discussion was moderated by Chat Box Anchor/NJ Spotlight News Sr. Political Correspondent David Cruz and WNYC Morning Edition host Michael Hill.

Candidates for the Republican Party primary include Jon Bramnick, Jack Ciattarelli and Bill Spadea.

Whoever emerges from the primaries of the two parties will contest the gubernatorial election of November 4, 2025 that will produce Governor Phil Murphy’s successor.

Governor Murphy, a Democrat, has served two terms as Governor of New Jersey and, thus, cannot run for a third term.

NJ PBS, New Jersey’s public media network, and public radio station WNYC are the conveners of the two New Jersey Gubernatorial candidate conversations for this primary election season.

The in-person component of the event, will be held at the Agnes Varis NJ PBS Studio in Newark, New Jersey, but is for invited guests only, but the live broadcast and rebroadcast of the two conversations will be on NJ PBS and WNYC and streamed across all partner web platforms.

Monday’s discussion, like Wednesday’s is live on NJ PBS (check local listings), NJPBS.org, and the NJ Spotlight News YouTube channel and NJSpotlightNews.org. You can also listen live on WNYC 93.9 FM, 820 AM, and wnyc.org and its New Jersey Public Radio stations WNJT-FM 88.1 Trenton, WNJP 88.5 Sussex, WNJY 89.3 Netcong and WNJO 90.3 Toms River.
